Mrs. Carmen Hayes is the Principal at Southside Elementary School. Mrs. Hayes is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, earning her B.S., M.Ed., and Ed.S. there. Licensed in elementary education, Mrs. Hayes spent nine years as a science teacher at Bridgeforth Middle School. She served as an instructional coach for one year. For the last fourteen years, Mrs. Hayes has been principal at SES. She was a state finalist in 2024 for the Tennessee Principal of the Year, representing the South Central Region. When not working, she enjoys road-tripping with her husband and two children and spending most weekends at a baseball park.

Mrs. Hannah Tomerlin is excited to serve as the Assistant Principal at Southside Elementary School. She began her career in education after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Athens State University in 2012. She later completed a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Carson-Newman University.
Mrs. Tomerlin spent three and a half years teaching fifth grade before pursuing a school counseling endorsement. She went on to serve as a school counselor for eight years, supporting students’ academic and emotional growth.
In 2023, Mrs. Tomerlin was selected for the Aspiring Assistant Principal Academy and received a grant to continue her leadership development. She has since earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Austin Peay State University.
Outside of school, Mrs. Tomerlin enjoys spending time on the farm and has a strong love for horses. Much of her free time is spent watching and supporting her children as they participate in youth rodeo events.
